4 reasons why fall is the best season to visit Greece

30.10.2019

The summer may be over but the best time to visit Greece is now! So make up your mind and bags and have the time of your life!

With Summer being just a fond memory and Christmas being months away, you might be looking for a quick fix that will help you relax and recharge. Greece is a perfect destination for a small break, especially during fall, when it gets quieter and more authentic.

What to do in Greece during Fall:

Sightseeing without the heat and crowds

You know Greece is full of ancient relics from thriving civilizations and people travel from all over the wold just to see them. From the magnificent Parthenon in Athens, to the palace of king Minos in Knossos, Crete and the palace of Mycenae in the Peloponnese, these are some of the most popular tourist attractions in the country- some of them are also UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

During the fall season you'll get the chance to enjoy them all to yourself without having to wait in long queues under the hot boiling sun.

Ideal temperatures for hiking or walking

Summer in Greece is generally hot. This means that when you visit during the summer you might miss out on exploring its wonderful trails and nature by choosing to spend the day at the beach (we can't blame you!).

The fall, is the perfect time to go back and visit those places you always wanted to but couldn't because of the high temperatures.

Travel for less

Another thing to consider is that you will be travelling during low season. That means that you can score some great deals on ferry tickets if you are planning to visit Greece by boat from Italy, or if you are planning to visit the famous island of Crete when in Athens. Also, you will be able to benefit from some great deals in accommodation - which means you can book a really nice hotel for a lot less.

Enjoy a more authentic experience

If you choose to visit Athens, for example, you will be sharing the streets with locals, as the hordes of tourists will be long gone and explore with ease its historical center. The atmosphere will be more chilled and so will be the weather.

Shopping in Athens will also be a dream, as you will find local boutiques and popular chains to be less chaotic and more inviting (mid-season sales take place in the beginning of November)!

If, on the other hand, you choose to visit Greece's province look for some unique, agricultural activities, such as olive and wine harvest. Some estates offer organized harvesting sessions where you can join the locals and help out with the production. In case you are not fond of the hands-on experience, you could still get a taste of the local produce by participating in a tasting session. Wine tastings are rather popular.

What is the perfect Greek destination during fall?

As stated above there are many places to visit in Greece. We would suggest Athens for a more relaxed city break, Crete for its ideal temperatures, plenty of activities and easy access (daily itineraries to/from the port of Piraeus) and the Peloponnese which is ideal for road trips, if you are travelling with your car from Italy.

So, have you made up your mind?
