If you want to get acquainted with the wild, yet romantic side of Santorini, these are the experiences you definitely have to live.

Among the top islands of the Mediterranean, people from literally every corner of the Earth come to visit it, in order to enjoy its unique natural beauty. Santorini, the southernmost island of the Cyclades, stands out for its volcanic landscape with its reddish and black hues, the little white houses built on the brink of the caldera–as if suspended at the edge of the cliff, and above all, its incomparably beautiful sunsets.

Santorini could be named the “ultimate island”, as it is unique all over the world. Therefore, it is the perfect setting for the perfect holidays, as it knows really well how to entice its visitor, offering him unforgettable moments. Discover yourself what makes thousands of people dream of a trip to Santorini, and visit it in order to live four unique experiences.

1. The stroll at the edge of the caldera

You will need about three hours to walk the pathway that connects Fira with Oia through Imerovigli, and explore the wild beauty of the caldera. The view from atop is truly breath-taking, the path is easy to walk and you will happen upon many chapels along the way, bathed in the cycladic light. On this ten-kilometre path you will feel as if performing acrobatics on the brow of the caldera, while the volcano, facing you across the sea, will attract your interest.

2. The dives at the volcanic beaches

It is true that no beach in Santorini resembles another. Each of them has something of its own to show. At Vlychada, the volcanic rocks appear as if chiseled. The famous Kokkini paralia (Red beach) draws its name from the red volcanic rock that creates a particular landscape. If you are a surfer, Baxedes, with the black volcanic sand will have you in for a treat. Aspri paralia (White beach) is equally impressive, as the black sand binds harmonically with the white rock. Last but not least, the bay of Agios Nikolaos, on the islet of Palia Kameni, which you will approach by caique, will offer you warm, yellow-green waters in an overall impressive natural scenery born from a volcanic eruption.

3. The visit to Ancient Thera

Ancient Thera, a site of particular historical value, bears witness to the island’s rich history. It was founded by Dorian colonists in the 8th century B.C., on the hill of Mesa Vouno at the southeastern coast of the island. It flourished during the archaic and the Hellenistic period. During the Roman times, the city continued growing, albeit in a slower pace. It was already in decline during the late Christian years and ceased to be inhabited altogether around the 8th century A.D. As you enjoy the view from the hill you will realise why this has been the island’s only urban settlement for many years.

4. The sunset from Pyrgos

If you haven’t seen the sunset in Santorini, it is as if you have never been there. And for the “initiated” visitors, the best sunset is enjoyed in Pyrgos, former capital of the island, far away from the hustle and bustle of Oia, where you will need tons of luck to find a good viewing spot within the crowd of sunset lovers. In Pyrgos, which is lately becoming a sophisticated travellers’ meeting point, the sunset is even more majestic thanks to the location of the old medieval settlement, from where you can see all the island stretch before you.
